“We are all on in mission; we are all one in call. A single great commission compels us from above to touch the lives of others by God’s suprprising grace; to plan and work together so every folk and nation may feel God’s warm embrace. Our varied gifts are united by Christ, the Lord of all.”
-from the hymn, “We All Are One In Mission” by H.M. Edwards
Powerful words…but how does one act to bring God to the world? It’s a varied and difficult question to answer, but that’s the purpose of the Christ Church Mission Committee.
CUMC seeks opportunities to bring its service to God out into both our local and international communities. For example; over the last 3 years the church’s youth and adults have done mission projects for the inmates of the Adams County Adult Correction Center, helped Katrina recovery in Mississippi and assisted in building a youth camp in Uruguay. We also are the home for the Waynesboro Area Fellowship of Churches’ “Lunch Place”, which serves hot meals while giving Christian hospitality to those who need it.
We also sponsor Food and Friends, which is an outreach program for our neighbors. This program, which is a free meal offered twice a month on Thursday evenings, has grown so much that we are now feeding 90 persons.
CUMC does so much good in the name of our service to God, but we don’t want to stop with these handful of programs. We want to risk new ideas, set new goals and mobilize our people to do ministry, after all Church is idea and action, not just a building. Because of this we are always looking for ideas and new perspectives. Won’t you come and help us experience and share the love of Christ that comes from loving and serving others?
