Sisters and Brothers,
On Nov. 30, 2020, Bishop Park and the Cabinet (the District Superintendents and the Conference Lay Leader) distributed an email letter describing their great concern “for the health and safety of our people” in light of the increasing numbers of COVID-19 cases throughout the conference and the state. They state, “This is a very grave situation that requires a sacrificial response. For your safety and that of your friends, family, and neighbors, I, as bishop, along with the full Cabinet urge you to not conduct indoor in-person worship or gatherings for the rest of the year.” While this is guidance and not a mandate, the CUMC Church Council decided to follow their request. This means that all in-person gatherings for small groups, Bible studies, meetings, or worship will be suspended. We will continue to offer our 10:45 worship experience via Facebook Live with a limited number of individuals (singers, musicians, sound/ video techs) to make it happen. Small group, Sunday school, Bible study, and team leaders are encouraged to use Zoom to continue to stay connected and in ministry.
We are not “closing” the church; merely continuing to do ministry in a different way. Please know this was not forced upon us by the bishop, or by any government agency. Yes, we were free to choose to continue as we were, but with freedom comes responsibility to care for others; it was our decision using the best guidance we had, and wanting to truly “love our neighbor” by doing our part to attempt to keep them safe and healthy.
We know that this decision is difficult to hear during this season of Advent and ask for your understanding and compliance.
God’s peace, Pastor Brian
People come to Christ Church seeking immediate food help. We do not want to turn anyone away and we especially want to meet them as Christ’s hands extended. Our pantry is currently still OPEN – we are bagging groceries and handing them out to community members that come to the church. This is a faith-ministry … as we give the food away to needy families, we trust God to supply yet more! You can help by donating food. We are currently only handing out specific items since we are bagging items and handing them out at the door.
Some simple, non-perishable (no refrigeration required) items that we need are:
Spaghetti Sauce, Spaghetti Noodles, Canned Soup (Chicken Noodle or Tomato), Pasta or Rice Sides (or similar side dish), Canned Beef Stew (or similar), Canned Fruits, Granola Bars, Crackers, Peanut Butter, Jelly, Cereal.
Thank you for your donations and support!
Open: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, & Friday from 10 AM – 2 PM. You may call first to make sure someone is here 717-762-7042
